With the waiting lists at traditional nursing schools growing longer and longer, those who already have a bachelors degree are turning to an increasingly popular alternative: accelerated nursing degrees.
If you have a bachelors degree, even if it’s in an unrelated field, you can apply to a school that offers an accelerated nursing program to get your BSN (Bachelors of Science, Nursing). Instead of taking two years, these programs typically take only about a year and a half to complete.
Before committing to an accelerated bachelors of science in nursing degree, you’ll want to consider both advantages and disadvantages.

There is a huge need for qualified nurses to fill nursing jobs now…and the demand is going to continue for a number of years. The population is shifting and baby boomers are retiring, this creates a need for both workers to fill their positions and more nurses to help as more elderly patients enter hospitals and nursing homes. Nursing jobs are plentiful at present but they are going to increase dramatically over the next 10-20 years.
