Are you considering the nursing profession and wondering the best way that you can prepare for nursing school? There are many aspects that should be considered, including which route of nursing education is going to be achieved.

There are two options that are available when it comes to becoming a nurse. The nurse has the option to take one program through a nursing school, college or university and complete an entire three to four year program that includes work experience that is going to prepare the nurse with the education and the experience that is required to work in the field. Through this program, the nurse is going to complete the education with a degree as a registered nurse, with the nursing degree. This course of education can enable the nurse to use various student loans, grants and work experience to help to offset the education but is not often attainable for adults that are returning to school to increase the skills.

The second method that can be used to start nursing school is to bridge the various programs together using part time education and courses to achieve the nursing education and background. Using this method, the nurse will first complete the nursing assistant program, then completing the LPN program and even the RN program over the course of a few years, while working their way through as the previous qualifications.

Before starting nursing school, there are certain things that the student can do increase the chances that the student is going to become admitted to the program. The student can ensure that they have excellent marks in the programs and can study to learn the basics that are taught through secondary school, as these basics are going to be expounded upon in nursing school. Taking the basic courses like math, sciences and English can be an effective way to ensure that the student is going to have the background knowledge that is required to excel within the nursing program.

In addition, there are various courses that are recommended like anatomy and physiology, that will assist the student in learning the basic information that will be used within the course, when learning how to assist the health care team to care for patients.

For students that are searching for a way to start the process of nursing school, without actually having to enter the program full time, there are many other options that are available. Students can use the online methods of learning to take one course at a time to begin the process of becoming a nurse.

Are you a nurse or a student that is considering entering nursing school, but concerned with eth costs of the program and wondering whether you are going to be able to afford the high costs of tuition and other expenses that are associated with enrolling into the nursing program? For students that are considering nursing school, it is important to realize that there are other options that are available when it comes to nursing school funding.

Here are some of the ways that nurses can find education assistance for the costs associated with nursing programs:

Student Loans
Students can take advantage of student loans that allow the student to create a flexible repayment schedule when it comes to the loan. Using student loans, the student can easily find that they are able to repay the debt once the education has been completed and a job has been obtained. The lower interest rate and flexible repayment option as well we the option to have privately or federally funded loans make it simple for a nurse to obtain assistance for the education costs.

Grants
Students can obtain grants from the government that do not have to be repaid. There are many, many types of student grants that the student can choose from when it comes to their education and therefore just simply applying for the grants can help the student to fund the cost of the nursing program. Since there are no application fees or other types of fees that are associated with the grant, the student can obtain truly free money to increase the level of education that has been achieved.

Scholarships
Just as there are many grants that go un-awarded every single year; there are also many scholarships that go un-awarded. These scholarships can be applied for by nursing students to help the nursing student to fund the education without having to repay the funds.

If you want to get into nursing school, the first step is you need to be your own judge and harshest critic. Evaluate yourself to see if you are really cut out to do this. Do you have an idea what it takes to be a nurse? What nursing as a profession entails?

All these self-examination is just to prove that indeed, this is what you want to do. So many people rush to pursue nursing just because it is a fad, or because there are many people joining and not because they are really interested in becoming nurses. It would help to conduct a little introspection and analysis of oneself. Does your personality and temperament fit this job? And do you know what a normal day for a nurse is like?

People are suited to many different jobs due to their personality or temperament. You will only grow, excel and be happy at a job that is well suited to you than one that is heaped on you by societal expectations. Each and every person has a chance to make a difference in society in any capacity. So choose nursing if it fits in well with you and go on and make a mark in this world.
Step two is to read the various prospectuses about the colleges and their admission policies, since admission policies differ from one institution to another.

Some may require you to be a bit traveled; others put emphasis on academic qualifications, while others may require you to have taken various courses that may not necessarily be listed on their prerequisites.

Step three, if you have finally decided that nursing is the program for you, and you have researched thorough mounds of information as pertains the program, at this stage you can now start thinking of how best to boost your chances of acceptance at your school of choice. These can be done by further reading and researching. You can research about the institution and also about nursing in general. It sure helps to have information on your desired program.

Community colleges are usually the least expensive, thus for someone pursuing nursing as a profession and who has financial constraints, community colleges would be the way to go. 70% of nurses graduate from these community college, where the cost of tuition ranges between 10 to 12 dollars per unit. University fees are usually a bit higher but these universities also have some of the best programs that help students afford school. Four year university degrees afford the students more opportunities than community college ones.

Acceptance into a nursing degree program is usually met with a lot of enthusiasm for those students who have toiled for two or more years.

It is a very exciting period in the life of an aspiring nurse but the high cost of the program damps down the good feeling. Apart from tuition, there are many other costs that bump up the total cost a few notches higher. After acceptance into the program, it is essential to establish the needs and what has to be done, taking into account the deadlines for payments and schedule the most important things first.

Additional costs include the uniform that is required by the student, this includes scrub attire of a particular color, and also a lab coat. These are usually gotten from a supplier chosen by the school so that the supplier may brand the garments with the school’s badge.

Medical equipment needed by the student also raises the cost. A student is required to have his own stethoscope, tape scissors, blood pressure cuffs, a pen light and many more items. The school in this instance usually gives the students’ free reign in choosing where to purchase these items. You may sample around in order to get a cheaper deal thus saving money.

All these costs add up quickly and though they become more expensive for the student, the good thing is some items are usually bought as a one off thing and there would be no additional buying of items a student already has. Furthermore, if the cost of the program becomes unbearable, there are a number of scholarships that are available for students pursuing nursing.

In order to prepare adequately for your nursing career, it is essential to ensure that before attending your first year of school, you have all the necessary supplies for the course. This is because unlike so many other college courses, success in this one depends almost entirely on getting sufficient practical training.

However, the list of supplies needed for a typical school year in this course can really run down your finances if you are not careful. These ones range from school uniform, books, equipment and a number of other things that are considered mandatory.

It is possible to cut down on your expenses however if you shop correctly for these items. Take time to visit several suppliers either physically or in person and note down their prices for various items. It is important to look at a number of items because some retailers feature extreme lows and highs in cost on individual articles and this may at the end of the day result in higher expenditure.

Another very essential aspect to take into consideration is the timing of your purchases. Like in any other shopping experience, last minute purchases will often cost you a lot more than doing this in advance. Traders generally determine their pricing based on demand. Therefore, when you buy at a time when few other prospective students are interested, you could even be surprised to cut the costs in half.

Make a comprehensive list of all necessary nursing supplies in advance of this to buy all items in a single trip. This comes with the distinct advantage of making you a viable customer for a good discount. This is because many sellers base their discount provision and rates on the amount spent. However, do not let this blind you to the option of saving on individual pieces that are sold at rates that are more reasonable by different suppliers.

One of the most rewarding careers is nursing, not only because of the care being given to patients who may be suffering from debilitating or life threatening illnesses, but because it is also a career that has room for advancement. While many licensed practical nurses are content to make a career as a practical nurse, some choose to use it as a stepping stone to becoming a registered nurse, a registered nurse certified (in a specialty field), or even a nurse practitioner. While each level of nursing requires a certain amount of educational courses to qualify for taking the licensing examination, they also need so many hours of continuing education courses to keep their licenses in good standing and/or to renew them prior to expiration.

Licensed practical nursing schools are set up to train the first level of nursing that does not require a degree program such as an Associateís Degree, a Bachelorís Degree or a Masterís Degree. A licensed practical nurse is actually known as a certificate program and it usually takes approximately one year to complete, but is some circumstances may take as long as two years. This is dependent on the amount of time the nursing student has to dedicate to taking the required courses. Upon completion of the program at licensed practical nursing schools, the nursing ëcandidateí then is required to pass a State Board examination in the state in which he or she will be practicing as a nurse.

Finding licensed practical nursing schools in your area can be accomplished in a few different ways. The first thing you may want to do is do a quick internet search and type in the keywords ìlicensed practical nursing schools in (your city and state).î A number of schools should come up and you can contact them either online or by making a phone inquiry at the number provided on their websites. Many licensed practical nursing schools also offer what is known as ëdistance learningí so that students can do some of their coursework from home, at their convenience. This is ideal for nursing students who need to hold down a full time job while studying.

The other way to find licensed practical nursing schools would be to contact community colleges, vocational schools and universities in your area. Many of these schools do offer nursing programs that will either award you with a certificate, such as in an LPN course, or a degree upon completion of RN, RNC or Nurse Practitioner graduate coursework. One thing to be aware of when taking a course online is that only some of the courses will be available for credit online. There will be some clinical/practical work that will need to be undertaken at an accredited hospital or other medical institution. This hands-on work is an integral part of the degree and must be completed prior to graduation and/or certification. Many of these schools can also help you apply for federal financial aid, so when you find a school you are interested in, don’t forget to see what types of aid are available!

Online degrees are becoming an increasingly attractive option for more and more people today, especially when it comes to choosing a nursing school program. Online nursing programs offer training through web casting or recorded videos and documents, and live interactive chat. It all boils down to this though: are online nursing school programs the same, if not better, than the traditional on-campus education?

The Pro’s

Programs such as online nursing classes provide huge perks for both students and professors alike. Schedule flexibility is one; distance learning emphasizes an asynchronous method of learning, meaning two people do not have to be available at the same time to be able to interact with each other. Nursing students which couldn’t make it to the web cast that day can easily watch its recorded version or read the professor’s documentation about it later.

Another benefit would be transport issues. Due to the fact that lessons take place in the virtual world, students can just simply stay at home and learn without going to have to go to the college’s campus especially if it’s a state or two away. The students are also provided with easier access to information. Being online, a student can easily get research information on homework or coursework activities through wikis, blogs, e-books and forums. Online Nursing School Programs also provide the benefit of clinical activities when you’ve reached that part of the program. Usually the online institution will find a medical facility near your home where there they’ll send staff to teach and assist you on your clinical requirements.

The Con’s

Although the advantages mentioned above are quite enticing, there are those who remain skeptical with this kind of approach to learning especially with hands-on, in-the-field degrees like Nursing. One disadvantage of online nursing school programs would be the student’s interest. Many complain that they have a hard time comprehending such long and dry lectures made by professors with complementing documents which are just as dreary. Clarification usually takes time to be made unlike in the campus were professors are easily available for the student and can quickly provide an answer to any of the student’s inquiries about the topic.

Another disadvantage of online school nursing programs would be the student’s ability when it comes to the clinical requirements. Research made by the U.S. Department of Education show that although students of online nursing school programs tend to excel in lectures, on the field performance sometimes leave more to be desired.

In all of this, it really depends on the individual as to which method to utilize in order to obtain his Nursing Degree. If you believe that you’re a self starter and can work without easily being distracted, then you should enroll in an online nursing school program. Some schools who offer this kind of service are the Indiana State University, The College Network and Ashford University. Otherwise, stick to the traditional on-campus learning, the vast temptations on the internet might get in the way of your learning.
