Nursing Jobs Scrambling To Attract Applicants

by Mike on January 20, 2009

Today if you are qualified to apply for any one of the thousands of available nursing jobs you are in a unique position. Due to the current nursing shortage, there are many more nursing jobs than applicants available, so that the odds are skewed in your favor. Not only can you pick and choose the job that you want, chances are that you can also get the schedule you want.

Unlike nursing jobs of ten years ago, you can have a say in your new schedule. There are many more options and flex time schedules available as well Some hospitals are even creating more weekend options available. With these positions, qualified nurses are required to work only two days a week. You will still get paid for 36-40 hours even though you are working only two 12 hour shifts. Very few jobs will offer you a schedule that can equal this.

Weekend nursing jobs also pay you benefits and you are considered a full time employee. There are even overtime hours available with many of these select positions. Another innovative scheduling feature is that of 4-6 hour positions. Many of these are available from 3-7pm. You might even want to offer your nursing skills only on an on call basis. This means that you would not even have a set schedule. You work as many or as few hours as you need.

Thanks to the nation wide nursing shortage and the daily creation of more nursing jobs there has never been a better time to enter the nursing field. Experienced nurses and new nursing graduates are both being recruited. If you are considering a change of careers or want a job with better pay and hours, nursing may be a wise choice to make. There are more nursing program opportunities available with online schools and community colleges leading the pack.
